Why Four Drill Systems?
Fractional drills step in 1/64″ (.0156″). Number drills (#80 smallest to #1) and letter drills (A to Z) fill the gaps between them, so there’s a drill within a few thousandths of any inch size you need. Metric drills step in 0.1 mm.
Sorted together, as above, you can see which drills are near-duplicates: E is exactly 1/4″, a 5.1 mm drill is within .0002″ of a #7, and 5 mm sits between #9 and #8.
